Case Summary
In February 1945, the defendant saw a buffalo belonging to Makundi, a farmer living in Port Blair. The buffalo was eating some shoots in a hospital garden. He shot the buffalo, and together with another Japanese, searched for its owner. Makundi was arrested, taken to the said hospital where he was tied to a pole and beaten by the two Japanese for 2.5 hours. Makundi was beaten unconscious, revived with hot water and beaten again. He died that evening.

Halfway through the trial, the Court requested a change of interpreters, because the previous interpreter's English was "rusty".
