The defendants were involved in the capture and killing of Burmese civilians attempting to escape the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in a large boat. Of the victims, 18 men, 9 women and 34 children died.
Ishida claimed to have performed acts of kindness towards the victims in their last hours, such as providing them with food and cigarettes as well as praying for them.
